Urrea holds a working meeting with the mayor of Cieza

The president of the Segura River Basin Authority, Mario Urrea, accompanied by the water commissioner, Ana María Arenas, held a working meeting with the mayor of Cieza, Tomás Antonio Rubio, along with the first deputy mayor, Manuel Martínez Lucas, and the councilor for the Environment, Francisco Martínez.

During the meeting, the mayor of Cieza requested information on some flood-prone areas in Cieza so that he could better plan and organize the municipal territory.

In this regard, the president of the river basin authority commented that Preferential Flow Zone (PFZ) maps are very useful tools for urban planning to protect against flooding and that it is a matter of legality for all competent authorities to take them into consideration. In particular, he reminded the authorities that it is up to the local councils to define and implement corrective measures for the protection of property and people, which have been approved by the river basin authority in its sectoral report, issued during the urban planning approval process for certain developments.

Likewise, the Confederation has reminded that it is the promoting agents, or failing that, the city council itself, who must provide hydraulic studies for any project undertaken in locations declared Preferential Flow Zones and flood zones required by the river basin authority.

On the other hand, the City Council has proposed controlling the flow rate by operating in areas of the Public Hydraulic Domain (PHD) of the Los Grajos ravine using a system of reservoirs.

In this regard, the CHS has indicated that it will study possible alternatives, informing the Cieza City Council that any new infrastructure projects, if implemented, will be carried out in the medium term. The City Council must carry out defensive actions as soon as possible in the urban areas already built and at risk.

Finally, the meeting took place in an atmosphere of cordiality and collaboration between both institutions.
