The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has carried out an operation in the municipality of Cieza, which has culminated in the investigation of two experienced criminals as alleged perpetrators of the crime of theft.
400 kilos of peaches have been recovered from the suspects' vehicles in the trunk of a car.
The operation began as part of the services established by the Civil Guard for the surveillance and protection of agricultural and livestock farms.
In an early morning operation at a particularly sensitive location in the municipality of Cieza, citizen security officers detected the circulation of a suspicious car.
Civil Guard officers intercepted the car, which was occupied by two people. The passenger fled on foot, while the driver was identified.
The vehicle examination was positive, with the discovery of 13 garbage bags filled with peaches, as well as various tools commonly used for harvesting the fruit and headlamps used to discreetly access the tree. The Civil Guard determined that the fruit came from a nearby farm.
The bags were in the trunk and rear seats, while a cell phone, apparently belonging to the person who fled, was found in the passenger seat.
Arrested by the Roca teams of the Civil Guard
The Civil Guard's ROCA (Countryside Anti-Theft) teams launched a series of investigations that led them to identify the phone's owner and determine that, along with the driver, he had a lengthy criminal record related to thefts of fruit and vegetable products from farms in the region.
The investigation concluded with the arrest of both suspects, who were charged with the alleged crime of theft.
The 400 kilos of recovered peaches have been donated to a soup kitchen in Cieza.
