"Equality is among the principles that must govern the actions of public libraries so that all users can access their collections, facilities, and services without any discrimination." This was stated by the Councilor for Equality and Opportunities, Amparo Pino, during the opening of the permanent reading center for equality, which the Padre Salmerón Municipal Library has set up in collaboration with the municipal department headed by María Turpín.

For the Library Councilor, contributing to equal opportunities is a key task for the current Cieza City Council governing team. In Turpín's words, "it's worth remembering that these same facilities already opened a library collection section dedicated exclusively to LGBTQ+ topics in June 2024, with the aim of demanding equal rights for all."

The so-called Purple Reading Point for Equality is located in the library's reception area, next to the main counter. It consists of a shelf of books for all ages where users can read in the library or request a loan. Library staff are attentive to users before, during, and beyond their physical presence in the library.

This is an initiative included within the framework of the State Pact against Gender Violence, which, for the occasion, featured the children's storyteller "I Want to Be a Pirate! Stories for Equality" by Teatro del Carmen.
