The IES Los Albares team from Cieza has been named the winner of the 10th edition of the Baccalaureate Debate League, organized by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training and the Debate Club of the University of Murcia, in collaboration with the Directorate General of the European Union.
In the final, held yesterday, 164 students from 31 schools in the region participated, facing three rounds of debates on various topics and the final, which was preceded by a spontaneous individual debate.
Carmen Balsas, Director General of Human Resources, Educational Planning, and Innovation, attended the final and emphasized that this activity, which is part of the "Learn to Debate" educational program, "improves students' argumentative skills, develops communication skills, encourages critical thinking and analysis, improves the confidence and self-assurance of participating students, and at the same time fosters values such as respect."
The type of debate used is the BP (British Parliament) format, the most widely used in Spanish universities, and will help students develop their public speaking skills and paralinguistic abilities such as controlling stage fright, using their voice, and using gestures.
