Personnel assigned to the Civil Protection Emergency Plan for Forest Fires in the Region of Murcia (Infomur) will participate in an aerial resource coordination exercise to combat forest fires, which will take place tomorrow, Thursday, in the Sierra del Picarcho (Cieza).
Firefighting resources from the regions of Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, and the Region of Murcia will participate in the drill; the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food, and the Environment; the Military Emergency Unit; and the 43rd Air Force Group of the Spanish Air Force.
The exercise, carried out at the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food, and Environment, aims to evaluate the coordination capacity of aerial resources and the effectiveness of management by various administrations in combating wildfires, whose high-risk period typically begins in June.
The activity to be carried out will involve the integration of State Administration systems, including the resources of the Ministry and the Armed Forces, and of three autonomous communities.
A total of ten aircraft will participate in the exercise, three of them (two helicopters with their corresponding heli-transported brigades and a coordination helicopter) assigned to the Infomur Plan.
In addition, an Advanced Command Post will be set up at the site, which will house coordination personnel from all participating administrations, while six ground forestry brigades will be deployed. A total of 150 personnel are expected to participate.
