Cieza City Council, through its Department of Health, is joining the international "Light Up Red" initiative promoted in conjunction with World Hemochromatosis Week, which is celebrated during the first week of June. Specifically, on the evening of Saturday, June 7, several iconic buildings in the municipality will be illuminated in red to raise awareness about this rare genetic disease.

The Citizen Service Building on the corner of the Convent and the blood symbol located at the entrance to the Las Morericas health center are scheduled to be illuminated in red, representative spaces that will contribute visually to raising awareness of this cause.

The initiative, promoted by the Spanish Hemochromatosis Association (AEH) and endorsed by the International Alliance of Haemochromatosis Associations (HI), seeks to highlight the importance of early diagnosis of hemochromatosis, a disease that affects between one in every 500 and 1,000 people in Spain and is considered the most common genetic disorder among people of European origin.

With this symbolic gesture, Cieza joins dozens of cities around the world that will dye their monuments red that night to remind everyone that visibility saves lives.
