Cieza City Council recently participated in the CORE NETWORK MEETING of the European project URBACT BiodiverCity, held in Siena, Italy. Representatives from the various partner cities met to share progress, challenges, and best practices related to promoting urban biodiversity.
During the meeting, participants discussed the need to promote biodiversity in urban environments and connect cities through green corridors, a key strategy for improving resilience to climate change. In the case of Cieza, this vision finds a clear parallel in the fundamental role played by the Segura River, which acts as a natural connecting link between the main green spaces and the urban core.
The importance of the active involvement of citizens, associations, and local groups in citizen science activities and, in general, in initiatives that promote knowledge and conservation of biodiversity in urban areas was also highlighted.
The Siena meeting provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge among European cities committed to environmental sustainability. Cieza thus continues its active participation in a project that aims to prepare municipalities for the challenges of climate change through the use of nature-based solutions, an essential tool for building greener, healthier, and more livable cities.
With its involvement in URBACT BiodiverCity, the Cieza City Council reinforces its commitment to more sustainable urban planning and to enhancing natural heritage as a driver of social and environmental transformation.
