Miguel Gual: “Citizens should have the peace of mind that their data at City Hall is already well protected from hackers with the best firewall.”

The councilor continues, explaining that "my goal is that, by the end of this term, the IT system should be working like clockwork. Servers, firewalls, cabling, even applications should be updated so that citizens can access all services from home, and above all, without interruptions, as is happening now with the constant downtime due to widespread obsolescence. The IT system has stopped working due to age."

For all the reasons stated above, the Department of New Technologies has just renewed its protection against external attacks with one of the most advanced systems available today.

The existing perimeter security system, consisting of two firewalls, was obsolete in terms of maintenance, performance, and, above all, the inability to update against new attack systems, says Gual. "In short, it was a system that didn't meet the minimum requirements of a modern city council, much less one where this Department of IT is working so hard to make it a benchmark in the Region of Murcia for new technologies."

The system chosen by IT managers offered the best value for money, including a firewall, antispam, antivirus, anti-virus software, VPN, IPS, and application control.

A system comprised of two high-end Fortigates configured for high availability will be responsible for information control with both internal and external shields. This represents an important step, without which it would not have been possible to move forward with the subsequent acquisitions that will be undertaken in the coming months.
