We regret to announce the passing of Don Antonio Galindo Tormo, president emeritus of the Brotherhood of the Prayer of the Garden and the Holy Sepulchre, and president of the Brotherhood Board from 1973 to 1979.
We attach the press release sent to us by the Brotherhood Board:
“History mourns the loss of the men who forged it.”
Today he has left us to live the eternal dream, a lover of his people, a champion and benefactor of its traditions, and an enthusiastic processionist.
The Board of Passion Brotherhoods of Cieza deeply regrets the passing of Don Antonio Galindo Tormo, who served as president of this institution between 1973 and 1979.
He assumed command of the procession at a time when bringing the saints out onto the streets was almost a miracle; refusing to turn his shoulder as the staff buckled, and ensuring, with determination and courage, the survival and continuity of our processions during one of the greatest crises in its history. For this reason, he was honored in 2008 as the Nazarene of the Year for Holy Week in Cieza. This was a period of extreme hardship, but he carried it through against all odds, with determination and great sacrifices of every kind.
His dedication, commitment, and love for our Passion traditions, which were constant throughout his life, have served as a role model for countless processionists and a giant of Holy Week in the 1970s. His voice fades, but his example remains with us, the memory of a constantly reaching out hand; of eyes shining with will and experience; of that Ciezan genius capable of doing the best he could for our Holy Week.
His example will live on in the collective memory of this Brotherhood Board and in the history of Holy Week in Cieza, and will be an inspiration for future generations of brotherhood members, as it has been for those fortunate enough to share a stretch of the Nazarene journey with Don Antonio.
On behalf of all the Brotherhoods and Confraternities, we offer a prayer for the eternal repose of his soul and extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
"Your memory will remain eternal in the hearts of Holy Week in Cieza and its people."
"Your memory will remain eternal in the hearts of Holy Week in Cieza and its people."
May the Lord of the Fall welcome you into his glory. Rest in peace, President.
